The NBA is completely bonkers right now. With less than two weeks until season’s tip-off, players are being flipped faster than flapjacks at IHOP. Chris Paul has been perfecting his start-and-stop from the comfort of his living room. Dwight Howard can't seem to decipher his own feelings about the Magic. Lamar Odom, as collateral from the Paul fall-out, whined his way to the Mavs, who were spurned earlier in the week by Tyson Chandler (Knicks). Chauncey Billups took his frequent flier miles to the Clips (though he could be dealt again by the time I finish this sentence) and Big Baby was swapped for Brandon Bass.

What emotion described your mood after Sunday’s Superdome debacle? Did you feel disappointed, humiliated, angry, or betrayed? Big Daddy felt so humiliated by the Saints half-hearted effort. Only Brett Farve understood Saints fans embarrassment after his wood-stroking photos surfaced on the internet. Several of Big Daddy’s co-workers revisited the Madden Curse theory, citing Drew Brees’ God-awful performance in which 2 of his 4 interceptions resulted in pick-sixes. Others wondered if Cleveland Head Coach Eric Mangini instructed former Saints Scott Fujita and Mike Bell (two integral pieces to last year’s Super Bowl Championship team) to hire a Voodoo priestess to cast an Early Halloween spell on Drew. One thing is certain, the Browns’ coach unleashed his bag of tricks on the Crescent City, soundly out coaching Sean Payton all afternoon. Saints fans can only pray that the Black ’n’ Gold will collect tons of treats come Halloween night when Pittsburgh comes to town. In this edition of the

The New Orleans Hornets became the first team to make a coaching change this season, firing head coach Byron Scott today.
Scott being fired doesn’t come as much of a shock to anyone who has watched the Hornets play this season. They look brutal. They are just 3-6 this season. Every time I turn on a Hornets game they seem to be getting blown out.

Have you looked at the league leaders yet this season?
There are some familiar faces atop some of the big categories. Kobe leads the league in scoring. Nash leads the league in assists. Rondo leads the league in steals.

Here is my take on the Hornets' summer league in Las Vegas.
Marcus Thornton was the team's leading scorer with 20ppg but only played in 3 games. He doesn't have a guaranteed contract. He did make a strong case to make the team. Or at least, be activated when players get injured.

There have been many rumors surrounding the Phoenix Suns since they missed the playoffs this season. Some of these rumored trades would actually help the team, but some of the options are only opportunities to cut payroll for the oncoming season and further destroy the team. Some of the biggest names involved in these rumors for the team have been Amare Stoudemire, Shaquille O’Neal, Steve Nash, Leandro Barbosa, and Jason Richardson.

What Ifs, What Fors, and What The #@^&s?
Twenty-eight NBA teams are looking at how to fix what went wrong about now, soon to be Thirty. Some wonder about squandered potential, some about how to fix injury issues, some at how to dump salaries to save cash (shame on you, wretched greedheads. More on that later), some looking at incredible young potential and how to keep them, etc. And that’s all well and good, but I need a moment to hang my head and ask “What if” about a few aspects of the Hornets I found troubling, who…well, they just…nevermind. Here we go.

I'm not a fan of the nuggets but i'm not a hater either. I call it how i see it.. Chauncey Billups has shown how important he is to a team, Detroit imploded the moment he left and the nuggets thrived.. They are all Healthy and can play fast and slow ball and have good defense.. Chris "Birdman" Anderson is a force of the bench as well..

Fourth Quarter continued.
6:20 Commit to the rebound! COMMIT!!! Crawford and Turiaf both could have taken an offensive rebound. Both got out of the way of the other. Hornets grabbed it. Pathetic.

Fourth Quarter begins.
11:43 Crawford has been driving tonight. Crawford has done well done. 26 after that three-point play.
10:45 Warriors are playing excellent defense this quarter but it's not enough. The lead is down to two.

Third Quarter continued.
4:35 Crawford just walked in for a lay-up on a half-court set. I'll take it.
3:50 David West goes to the spot he likes to shoot from. Stands there and wait. Chris Paul drives, draws the defense, dishes on a string. 2 easy points for the Hornets. That's talent.

Third Quarter begins.
10:14 Ronny Turiaf was slow getting up the court. He caught the ball then passed it from just a yard beyond the mid-court line, then made his way back towards our basket. I was trying to figure out what was wrong with him when I realized that his pass went to an open Anthony Morrow. I like Ronny Turiaf.

Second Quarter continued.
5:04 Ronny Turiaf just blocked a HUUUUGE dunk attempt. He came from under the rim. It was a reverse block. Incredible.
4:34 I dislike it any time opponents are allowed to score on their second put back of the same shot. That's just poor boxing out. Under any circumstance.

As quick as the Oklahoma City Thunder accepted the trade for big man Tyson Chandler, the sent it right back. Late Wednesday night, Tyson Chandler of the New Orleans Hornets was shipped back to Louisiana due to a failed physical. One of the Thunder doctors gave him a physical and examined his big left toe. He decided that the risk of injuring it again was to great to give him a clean bill of health. Tyson Chandler has turned into one of the solid big men in the league but has really never lived up to his potential after being drafted second overall in the 2001 NBA draft by the Clippers and then traded to the Bulls for former rookie of the year, Elton Brand. Chandler has averaged 8.2 points per game and 9 rebounds per game since he went pro in 2001. This trade not going through may have helped the hornets more then people think though. When Chandler gets healthy they'll be one of the top teams in the Western Conference again and maybe make a title run. Then again if this trade would have gone through the Hornets would have had a potentially a deep, playoff experienced, team. They could send more guys off the bench if the trade would have gone through and that could give them more fire power against Western Conference powerhouses like the Lakers. The big question here is, will it be awkward to come back to a team who would just ship you off with no second thought? It would feel to me like I was not appreciated there and why should I stay there when they do not want me around. I would feel betrayed. Then again I am typing on here and he is in the NBA, it is his choice.

On MLK night, the Lakers took it the Cavs. If this game didn't showcase why the Lakers are the best team in the league right now, I don't know what does. For the average person who just looks at the NBA as a whole, the Lakers are the team right now. But, as Lee Corso would say, not so fast my friend. No doubt, Spurs fans are loading up on the throat sprays and getting ready to shout "GO! SPURS! GO!" Might seem like a breathtakingly boring battle cry for one's favorite basketball team, but the Spurs since 1999 have won four NBA championships (including that "asterisk" year of 1999 that Shaquille O'Neal likes to whine about--especially now since he's enjoying his off-season). After squeaking by the New Orleans Hornets* in Game 7, they now face the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers are hungry for two reasons:

As I watched the Hornets-Spurs game last night, I had no idea whom I wanted to win. The Hornets? The Spurs? It wasn't so much that I was rooting for my favorite of the two, but I was looking for the opponent that couldn't match up with the Lakers. It was a great game, but in the end, I think I did want the Hornets to win. With Tony Parker maturing and Tim Duncan his usually great stoic self, the veteran Spurs always somehow find a way to win unspectacularly. I've always like the Spurs since the George Gervin days, but I will always choose my Lakers over the Spurs anyday...

It's little wonder why the San Antonio Spurs are the defending NBA champions and have won four titles in nine seasons in building their own dynasty over that same period. After looking like a non-contenders in New Orleans in the first two games, the Spurs revved up the intensity at home and tied the series 2-2 with a pair of dominant victories.
Posted by Chad Klassen | No comments yet
If this trend continues then Boston fans have nothing to worry about. With home court advantage throughout the playoffs the Celtics have the inside track to the NBA title. I have never seen anything like this before. Home court advantage is obviously important, it is why teams play the whole regular season and it’s why Major League Baseball puts it up for grabs every July in the All-Star game. But I didn’t know that playing in front of your home crowd mattered this much.

No, I’m not talking about CP3, but rather the significant influence that third-quarter play has had on the series between the Hornets and Spurs, now tied at two games apiece. After starting the second halves of the first two games with unparalleled intensity, last night New Orleans seemed, to take a word from Stephen A. Smith, anemic. The Spurs outscored them 30-19 in their 100-80 win last night. Byron Scott, clearly upset with his squad’s performance, cleared his bench to start the fourth. His attempt to regain the vehemence the Hornets had previously played with was in futility. The Spurs simply out-hustled their visitors last night. Hopefully, the Hornets can return the favor when the series comes back to the Big Easy tomorrow night.

Out all the first round matchups I find it very suprising that the Atlanta Hawks took the Boston Celtics into game seven. I was suprised the Hawks made the playoffs in the first place. Was this a collapse by the juggernaut Celts or did the young Hawks play some of the best basketball of their life?

After a decisive victory Saturday night, the Hornets will meet with a Spurs team playing with a vengeance. Here’s what to look out for tonight.
· Tim Duncan hustling more than Rick Ross. After a pathetic 5 points and 3 boards compiled in the first game, the forward will be playing focused, tough basketball. Tyson Chandler did a great job of shutting him down, but if he gets into foul trouble (which San Antonio will be gunning for), watch for Hilton Armstrong to come in and do his best.

That’s all I can say about the Hornets’ play last night in their 101-82 victory over the Spurs. To be frank, after a (relatively) rough first quarter, I thought the highlight of the night would have been Super Hugo’s acrobatic dunk through a ring of fire. The arena workers’ amusing struggle with the stunt’s subsequent mess aptly foreshadowed the difficulty the Spurs would have extinguishing the fiery play of David West. The All-Star forward put up 30 points and 9 boards, shooting .565 from the field. On the other side of the court, Tyson Chandler effectively shut down Tim Duncan, limiting him to a paltry 5 points and 3 rebounds. Chris Paul and Tony Parker squared off with equally impressive performances, Paul finishing with 17 points and 13 assists, Parker with 23 and 5. The series continues Monday night in New Orleans.

As much hype as there was around the Spurs-Suns series (at least from Mike Wilbon), the games really didn't deliver. San Antonio played their good ol' fundamentals game and the Suns most likely came to the realization that their Championship window is closing, if not already closed and locked up tight. The upcoming Hornets-Spurs match-up promises to be far more entertaining. The Hornets are basically what the Suns were a year or two ago, with Chris Paul playing just about as well as Steve Nash ever did. Living in New Orleans this past year, I have had the chance to watch many a Hornets game, and I can say that the MVP trophy could have fairly gone to Paul. You can't argue with Kobe getting his first MVP trophy (about bloody time) , but for this spectator it happens to be far more impressive seeing a man of Chris Paul's diminutive stature take over a game as opposed to KG, Kobe or LeBron, the other candidates for MVP. But I digress. These are two teams, the Hornets and Spurs, that are all about team play, and neither is going to go home without giving up a fight (evidently, I could not have said the same thing about the Suns). If I had to give someone an official edge, it would have to be San Antonio, but only by default owing to their playoff experience vs New Orleans' lack thereof. That is my official position. If I were to put money on it (I won't), I'd go with the Hornets. No one has wanted to take them seriously all season, from early on when they were a "nice surprise" to their first round playoff match-up when they were pegged for an upset. Now I'm sure no one wants to believe they can take down the defending champs, the San Antonio Spurs: Old Reliable. Well I've seen them play all year, and it is very possible. What it comes down to is nerves, and personally I don't see CP getting rattled easily, he's as cool as they come. I may be going out on a limb but let's just say if the Hornets win the series, all the experts will call it shocking, and they really shouldn't be.

Looks like the Wizards blew it again. All that talk before the series even started really did not help. Let's just hope we aren't this decade's version of the 90s Knicks, who MJ managed to keep down seemingly every year (and the Cavs too for that matter). I mean let's face it, Queen James is only going to get better.

After watching last night's loss to the Hornets, and the Mavs putting themselves in a 3-1 series hole, I began to wonder what sort of team we really have. Two years ago, we were on the cusp of raising the Larry O'Brien Trophy and being the kings of the basketball world. Something I remember from that series was Jerry Stackhouse and his no-b.s. attitude.

To anyone who watched these two teams this year it is no surprise that Utah won the first game. The Jazz have been tagged as a terrible road team and a great home team. Although their record indeed supports such claims, Utah seemed to lose away games to teams like Minnesota. Quality road blowouts against the Hornets and minor league champins Boston Celtics show the true potential of the Utah Jazz - away or at home.

Yesterday I chose the Detroit Pistons to come out of the East. It was a very difficult call between then and the Boston Celtics and I do believe the Celtics are the better team but as I said I think their energy will run out. LA Lakers vs. Denver Nuggets 4:2
Lakers are Bynum-less; however, they have enough talent to win the series. AI will win one game for Denver, as he usually does in playoffs. Denver will win another one on the back of Carmelo buy-me-a-drink-and-I-will-drive-home Anthony.

Say what you will about Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, and the likes of Kevin Garnett. They all garner a whirlwind of MVP talk from various sports writers, bloggers, and around the cooler dwellers, each person claiming "its just their year". That said, as yet another fantastic NBA regular season draws to a close, a new frontrunner has emerged in the MVP race, Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets. Growing up in North Carolina, Paul was an All-American in high school and in 2003 was named Mr. Basketball for the state of North Carolina, averaging 30.8 ppg, 8 apg, 5 rpg, and 6 spg (steals). While posting such jaw dropping numbers he led his West Forsyth High team to a 27-0 record and a state title. Paul then went on to play at the once proud powerhouse of the ACC, Wake Forest in the town he was born, Winston-Salem. There he played nothing short of spectactular winning ACC Freshman of the Year his first year, and was named a consensus First Team All-American his Sophomore, and last year at Wake Forest. All the while that Paul was competing and shining in the spotlight in the ACC, he had an avid competitor for the limelight over at Georgia Tech with Jarrett Jack, currently playing for the Portland Trail Blazers.

After winning they're last two games at home over two eastern confrence speed bumps The Pacers and 76ers the Lakers head on the road for a quick two game road trip. They will be playing back to back games starting Tuesday with a game Vs. The Memphis Grizzlies although the Grizz have a horrifying 10-23 record they shouldn't be overlooked by the Lakers. The last meeting between these two teams resulted in a Lakers 10 point loss 128-118 at the FedEX forum. I'd add the Grizzlies were equally horrible last year.

The Mavs have lost 5 of their last 5 and 9 games total this season. Mercifully, the New Orleans Hornets lost tonight as well, and the Mavericks didn’t lose any ground in the division. Friday, the Mavericks will square off against the Hornets, and as of now, the Mavericks are a half game back of them in the Southwest division and 4 games back of San Antonio, who looks like the real deal defending world champs.
